Green is Now Mainstream About Us Green Shopping Green Resources
If you linked here from my Facebook pages, you already know a lot about my mission. If you found this site some other way, welcome!
Being green no longer means being a wacko extremist. Evidence of this includes trends like municipalities mandating recycling, auto manufacturers stepping up and producing hybrids, and consumers embracing organic foods. We can all do more. This site is devoted to reducing the impact shopping has on our environment.
Before shopping, make an educated choice as to which merchant you patronize. We have taken the time to make a list for you.
Shop online as much as possible - leave your car in the garage! Plan your purchases to include as many products in the same delivery as possible. This reduces the consumption of energy in the delivery process.
Avoid impulse buying.
If you must use a car and shop the old way at brick-and-mortar retailers, try to carpool as much as possible. Park centrally and walk your purchases back to the car rather than driving from shop to shop. Starting a car and idling are very wasteful exercises.
Before throwing out a household item and replacing it with a new purchase, find out if it can be repaired first. Though the cost may seem high, there are obvious benefits. Buy secondhand goods if you can.
Get informed. Find out how much energy was used to make the items you are considering for purchase. For crying out loud, avoid products made in countries that routinely deforest land and pollute the environment. Support countries that think green. Here is a link to an interesting list that may very well surprise you.
The fact that you are even on this website indicates you would rather support small businesses than powerful conglomerates, but remember that big companies are better positioned to making large impacts if they are socially aware.
Overall, use your personal energy to fight for this planet. Visualize yourself as living a satisfying lifestyle, not making painful sacrifices.
